Hey, this is my first guide for kal I've made and posted. It's how to get students the easy way.
Let's start off putting you in a new players shoes. You see people running around screaming "LOOKING FOR STUDENTS" and people with a shop open with names such as "Register me at agent and you get free stuff!" These may work to get one, maybe two people. You ask yourself why? Well, if you just started a game and there are 20 people asking you to be your student, what do you do? How do you choose? You don't. Most beginners leave town right away before even thinking there is a such thing as a teacher. I tested my way of getting students today and I got 5 in one hour. You could probably get more.
Since most beginners leave town right away, I find standing by the Agent and typing all caps doesn't quite work. Try leaving town and looking for people fighting demon vulgars, etc.
In my opinion, the easiest way to get a student...is my way...muhaha.
First, start out by being the new players friend. I laugh when people run straight up to a person and say "CAN I BE YOUR TEACHER??" and the student just ignores them and walks away. Be their friend before asking thme to be your student, start by walking up to them and starting a conversation. Try something like, hey what's up, or what level are you, maybe even how do you like the game so far?
Once they are talking to you, don't ask them to be your student already, ask them if they have a teacher, and be polite, don't type in all caps "WILL YOU BE MY STUDENT???" they will probably think you are yelling at them. If they don't have a teacher, ask them if they would like one. At this time, they usually ask what a teacher does, what they get, or what the benefits are from being ones' student.
Don't tell them right away that they get free 20k at level 16, they don't even know what 20k can buy them yet. Instead, be friendly, and tell them the minor benefits first (ie. full g8 armor).
I also find adding more to the armor scenario helps as well, i give my students anything from a g13 to a g25 weapon upon signing me as their teacher. I have yet to give a student a weapon who didn't reach level 16. I also add a few potions, between 10-25.
You may ask, why give them stuff, then I get less profit! Let's see here, in Naratooh you can find a g13 weapon for 1k. Small meds cost 20 geons in that town. Let's say you give them 25 small meds.
25 small meds x 20 geons each = 500geons. 500 geons + 1k (weapon) = 1.5k. Now, if you aren't willing to give up 1.5k to a new player, REGARDLESS of them reaching level 16, you are either poor or greedy.
Remember, they have just started a new game, they need a friend more than a teacher. :-]
I've used this technique many times, it works very good in my experience with it. Hope it will work for you.
